New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Veteran TV journalist Arnab Goswami, known for his outspoken style and sharp questions, appears to be in serious legal trouble once again. The Delhi High Court, taking a tough stand in a major defamation case filed by the Congress Party, summoned Arnab Goswami on Tuesday. Given the seriousness of the matter, the court issued a clear order summoning Goswami, sparking a flurry of activity from the media world to political circles.

2 crore defamation case over claim made during TV show

This entire controversy stems from a controversial claim made by Arnab Goswami during a TV show, in which he told viewers that the country's oldest party, the Congress Party, also has an office in Turkey. Following the broadcast of this statement, the Congress party strongly objected, calling it a deliberate plot to tarnish its image, and filed a substantial defamation suit against Arnab. The Congress party has demanded a hefty ₹2 crore in damages from Goswami to compensate for the damage to its political credibility.

Justice Mini Pushkarna issued summons and sought response within four weeks

According to a recent report in Bar & Bench, while hearing this high-profile case, Justice Mini Pushkarna flatly refused to pass any immediate interim order, but instead decided to issue summons to the defendants. Justice Pushkarna stated in court that the broadcast occurred in May 2025, and therefore, she would issue summons. Meanwhile, the Congress Party's lawyer strongly argued that the objectionable material remains available on the internet, and that numerous articles supporting it are also circulating online. The judge issued notices for summons and interim injunction through all channels to the defendants, strictly directing them to file a detailed response within just four weeks. The next hearing in the case has now been scheduled for May.
