Bihar SIR : SC Asks Election Commission for Details on 65 Lakh Voters Removed from Bihar List
Patna (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to provide complete details of the 65 lakh voters removed from Bihar's voter list by August 9. This comes after the draft of the first revised voter list was released as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar.
Key Details:
1. Voters Removed: 65 lakh voters won't be included in the August 1 draft list because they didn't submit enumeration forms during the SIR process.
2. Reason for Removal: According to the Election Commission, these voters are either dead, have shifted elsewhere, or are duplicates.
3. Supreme Court's Stance: The court warned it would intervene if there's "mass exclusion" of voters.
4. Final Voter List: The final list is scheduled to be published on September 30.
5. Participation in SIR: Over 91.69% of registered voters in Bihar submitted counting forms as of July 27.
Background on the SIR Process:
The Election Commission started the SIR of voter lists in Bihar on June 24. The process aims to update and "purify" electoral rolls by removing ineligible entries and including eligible citizens.
