Hong Kong (The Uttam Hindu) : In a concerning sequence of events, three Boeing Dreamliner flights bound for India were forced to return mid-air within the span of 24 hours due to technical faults and a bomb threat. The incidents have once again put the spotlight on aviation safety and operational protocols.

Air India Flight Returns to Hong Kong Due to Technical Fault

On Monday, Air India flight AI315, operating a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner from Hong Kong to Delhi, was forced to return to its origin after a technical malfunction was reported. Details regarding the nature of the fault or the number of passengers onboard are yet to be disclosed. The airline has initiated an internal investigation.

Two International Flights to India Also Returned on Sunday

On Sunday, two more Dreamliner aircraft heading to India—one from London to Chennai and another from Frankfurt to Hyderabad—were also forced to turn back mid-air due to separate safety-related issues.

British Airways Flight BA35 Faces Technical Glitch

British Airways’ Flight BA35, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, took off from London Heathrow en route to Chennai but returned to London after about two hours of flight time. According to Flightradar24, the flight, scheduled to depart at 12:40 PM, took off at 1:16 PM and was airborne until circling over Dover, after which it returned to Heathrow due to a flap failure. British Airways has not officially released passenger details or further technical specifics of the incident.

Lufthansa Flight to Hyderabad Returned After Bomb Threat

In a more alarming case, Lufthansa Airlines Flight LH752, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from Frankfurt to Hyderabad, had to turn back to Frankfurt following a bomb threat received by Hyderabad Airport. According to an official at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, an email containing the bomb threat was received at 6:01 PM on June 15. In response, the airport activated its Bomb Threat Assessment Committee and followed full standard operating procedures. Authorities recommended that the airline either return the aircraft to Frankfurt or divert it to the nearest safe airport. The aircraft was eventually flown back to Germany to ensure passenger safety. Lufthansa confirmed that they did not receive landing clearance from Indian authorities due to the threat.

June 12 Ahmedabad Crash Still Fresh in Memory

These developments come just days after a deadly Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, in which 241 of 242 people onboard, including the crew, lost their lives. Only one passenger survived the crash, which occurred within two minutes of takeoff.

Mounting Pressure on Aviation Authorities

The recent string of incidents involving Boeing Dreamliners has raised public concern and is expected to lead to increased scrutiny from Indian and international aviation regulatory bodies. Investigations are currently underway to assess technical and security lapses, and airlines may face stricter compliance reviews in the coming weeks. Passengers are advised to stay informed through official airline communications and follow all safety instructions during travel.
