Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): Panic spread across West Bengal after bomb threats were sent by email to six major courts in the state. The messages claimed that powerful explosives had been planted inside court premises. Following the alerts, police and security agencies rushed to the locations and launched extensive search operations with the help of sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads. After several hours of thorough checking, no suspicious or explosive material was found.

Email claimed rdx attack plot

The threatening emails targeted several courts, including the City Civil and Sessions Court and Bankshall Court in Kolkata, along with courts in Chinsurah (Hooghly), Asansol and Durgapur (West Burdwan), and Berhampur (Murshidabad). The sender claimed that RDX-based improvised explosive devices had been planted and would be detonated remotely at noon. The message also alleged that armed Maoists would enter the court premises and carry out the attack. Authorities immediately evacuated the courts and moved people to safer locations while search operations were conducted.

Investigation suggests possible hoax

Police officials said preliminary findings indicate that the threats may be a hoax, though the matter is being taken seriously. The incident occurred during a sensitive period when discussions related to voter list revision and deployment of judicial officers are ongoing. Authorities said all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of court staff and judicial officers.

Cyber teams tracing email source

Senior officials held a joint briefing at the state secretariat to review the situation and reassure the public. They said the threatening emails appeared to follow a similar pattern and confirmed that security arrangements have been strengthened at court complexes across the state. Cyber crime teams are working to trace the origin of the emails and identify those responsible for spreading

the threats.
