London (The Uttam Hindu): A well-known restaurant named “Rangrez,” which has been serving Indian cuisine in the British capital for the past 16 years, is set to close permanently. The announcement was made by owner Harman Singh Kapoor, leaving regular customers of the Hammersmith-based establishment disappointed by the decision.

Owner cites harassment and lack of support as reasons

Harman Singh Kapoor, who operated the restaurant along with his wife, shared an emotional message on social media explaining the reasons behind the closure. He alleged that rising operational costs, online harassment, and repeated disturbances by certain groups had created serious difficulties. He also claimed that insufficient support from local law enforcement made it increasingly difficult to continue running the business safely.

Business environment became unsafe

According to Kapoor, he faced continuous intimidation and threatening messages online, which were followed by repeated incidents of unrest at the restaurant premises. He said maintaining a secure environment for staff and customers had become extremely challenging. The restaurant is expected to shut its doors permanently next month, and Kapoor thanked loyal customers who supported the business over the years.

Mixed reactions from customers

Following the announcement, many customers expressed disappointment on social media, recalling the restaurant’s popular dishes and unique taste. The establishment held a Google rating of 3.9 stars based on hundreds of reviews. While many visitors praised the food quality, some had raised concerns about service. The restaurant had built a reputation for its flavorful curries, tandoori dishes, and Indian street food specialties in London.
