Bombay HC takes stern action against impersonators, issues ultimatum to social media platforms over Salman Khan fake accounts
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Bollywood's "Dabangg" Salman Khan has now taken a stand against the misuse of celebrities' faces and voices in the digital world. On Thursday, December 11, 2025, the Delhi High Court, while hearing Salman Khan's petition, issued strict instructions to social media companies and digital platforms. The actor had approached the court to stop the unauthorized use of his images, voice, and personality, on which the court has ordered immediate action.
Social media companies must take action within three days
A bench of Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, hearing the case, directed social media intermediaries to treat the petition filed by Salman Khan as a formal complaint. The court ordered these companies to take action within three days, as required by the rules. This decision is a major warning to platforms that are using the names and identities of celebrities without permission. The court also clarified that it will soon issue stay orders against platforms other than social media as well.
Questions were also raised about Apple apps and AI chatbots
During the hearing, Salman Khan's lawyer, Sandeep Sethi, raised several serious issues before the court. He specifically pointed out that an application is available for download on the Apple App Store that directly infringes on the actor's rights. Furthermore, the lawyer cited AI chatbots and content on e-marketplaces that are profiteering by misusing Salman Khan's image and name. He told the court that the internet is flooded with fake news and misleading content, which is not only misleading fans but also causing significant damage to the actor's brand value and financial interests.
Salman Khan follows the path of Amitabh and Rajinikanth
Salman Khan, in his petition, has sought an injunction against several named and unknown respondents who are commercially using his dialogues, style, voice and photographs without his permission. With this legal action, Salman Khan has now joined the list of big stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajinikanth, who have approached the court to protect their 'personality rights'. This case shows how challenging and necessary it has become for celebrities to protect their digital identities in this era of AI and deepfakes.
