Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu): The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it clear that students must have at least 75 percent attendance to be eligible for board examinations. Without attending school neither internal assessments will be completed nor results declared. Schools have been directed to ensure students meet this requirement and to complete internal assessments accurately and on time. No new subject can be introduced without the board’s permission.

Under the New Education Policy (NEP-2020), internal assessments are mandatory in all subjects. The board has stated that if students do not attend school internal assessments cannot be carried out and such students may be barred from appearing in examinations. A notice issued by CBSE also mentioned that for class 10, studies of both classes 9 and 10 are compulsory while for class 12 studies of both classes 11 and 12 must be completed.

Examination Controller Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj said these rules apply equally to both schools and students and cannot be ignored. He warned that students with less than 75 percent attendance may be stopped from taking exams. Supporting the move, Dr. Prerna Mitra of the CBSE School Organization Sahodaya Complex said strictness in attendance will improve school education and prevent students from skipping school in favor of private tuitions.
