“Dad, I am in severe pain”… Indian man dies after 8-hour wait at Canada hospital, video surfaces
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic incident has emerged from Edmonton, Canada, where a 44-year-old Indian-origin man allegedly died of a cardiac arrest after not receiving timely medical treatment at a hospital for several hours. According to reports, the victim experienced severe chest pain while at work on December 22 and was taken to Grey Nuns Community Hospital.
Kept waiting in emergency area
As per a Global News report, Prashant, a father of three, was made to wait in the emergency room waiting area for more than eight hours. His family stated that after an initial check-up, he was asked to sit in the waiting room despite complaining of intense pain.
Prashant’s father said he repeatedly informed hospital staff that his son’s pain level was “15 out of 10”, yet no immediate treatment was provided. After waiting for over eight hours, Prashant was finally called into the treatment area, but by then it was too late.
According to the family, Prashant kept telling his father, “Dad, I am in a lot of pain,” while struggling in the waiting area. Due to the delay in medical care, he suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away. He is survived by his wife and three children.
The Grey Nuns Hospital is operated by the Covenant Health healthcare network. In a statement to Global News, the organization declined to comment on specific details of the patient’s care but confirmed that the case is currently under review by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
