New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In today’s fast-paced life, time is a constant challenge. Between work, studies, traffic, and daily responsibilities, cooking often feels like a burden. This is where ready-to-eat and packaged foods become a convenient solution—just open, heat, and eat. However, this convenience may slowly harm our health.

Products like flavored yogurt, instant oats, noodles, and frozen vegetables often claim to be healthy and tasty. Labels such as “low fat,” “high fiber,” or “100% natural” create a sense of trust, making consumers believe they are making the right choice. But the reality is often different.

To increase shelf life, these packaged foods typically contain preservatives, high amounts of salt, sugar, and artificial flavors. While these ingredients enhance taste, they can negatively affect the body over time. Excess salt may lead to high blood pressure, while high sugar intake can increase the risk of weight gain and Diabetes.

Another major concern is the lack of proper nutrition. During processing, many essential vitamins and minerals found in fresh food are lost. As a result, while packaged food may fill your stomach, it may not provide the nutrients your body actually needs.

Over time, regular consumption of such foods can also change eating habits. People may start finding home-cooked meals less appealing, which is a long-term risk to overall health.

This does not mean you must completely avoid packaged food. Consuming it occasionally is fine, but making it a daily habit is not advisable. It is better to prioritize fresh, home-cooked meals. If you do choose packaged food, always read the label carefully to understand what ingredients it contains.
