Handler Shabbir Ahmed was in contact with Hafiz Saeed, ISI allegedly funding terror module; major revelation in Delhi case
Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday busted a major terror module during an early morning operation. Six suspects were arrested from Tamil Nadu and two from West Bengal. Initial information suggests that some of the arrested individuals are Bangladeshi nationals. All suspects are currently being interrogated in detail. Several mobile phones and SIM cards have been recovered from their possession, and a technical analysis of the seized devices is underway.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the alleged handler of the module, Shabbir Ahmed Lone alias Shabbir Shah, was in contact with Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.
According to the Special Cell, the Lashkar-linked module operating from Bangladesh was allegedly planning to carry out terrorist activities in India. The investigation has further indicated that Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was allegedly involved in recruiting Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in India and providing financial support for such activities.
Officials stated that Shabbir Ahmed Lone had been in contact with Lashkar chief Hafiz Saeed and 26/11 attack conspirator Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi since 2007. During his arrest by the Special Cell in Delhi in 2007, evidence of such links had reportedly been found. The investigation is ongoing, and security agencies are examining other possible connections in the case.
