Heat wave wreak havoc, orange alert issued, cases of dehydration increase in hospitals
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu)- The scorching heat in North India has made normal life miserable. According to the local weather forecast released on the website of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in Delhi-NCR is likely to reach 44 to 45 degrees Celsius on June 11 and June 12.
Along with this, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for both these days. During this time, conditions like strong surface winds, dust storms and heat waves will have to be faced during the day. On June 13, the temperature is expected to drop slightly to 43 degrees, but the Meteorological Department has still issued a yellow alert.
On this day, heat, humidity, strong winds, and rain with thunder are expected, which may increase humidity, discomfort and more. Relief is expected from June 14. However, there is also a risk of lightning and thunderstorms. According to the Meteorological Department, a change in the weather can be seen from June 14. There is a possibility of rain with thunder on this day and the temperature may drop to 40 degrees. However, a yellow alert has been issued for this day as there is a possibility of strong winds at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour, lightning and thunder. There is also a possibility of rain with thunder or intermittent rain on June 15 and 16. No warning has been issued for these days.
Amid the current heat conditions, hospitals in Delhi and NCR have seen a 90 percent increase in the number of patients complaining of dehydration, heat stroke and dizziness. Especially children and youth are turning to hospitals in large numbers. Doctors have advised people to avoid going out during the day, increase the intake of water and electrolytes and avoid direct exposure to the sun. In this period of scorching heat, the administration and the health department have appealed to the people not to go out of the house unnecessarily, wear light cotton clothes and take special care of children and the elderly. Keeping in mind the alert issued by the Meteorological Department, it is very important for the general public to remain alert.
