India rejects pakistan claims over canada uranium deal, says world aware of its clean record
India rejected Pakistan’s allegations over the India–Canada uranium supply deal, saying its nuclear non-proliferation record is clean
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has strongly rejected Pakistan’s allegations regarding the India–Canada uranium supply agreement. The Ministry of External Affairs said India’s credibility on nuclear non-proliferation remains spotless and accused Pakistan of making “ridiculous statements” to divert attention from its own poor record. India also dismissed Pakistan’s claim that it was instigating Afghanistan against Islamabad.
During a media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Pakistan’s statement is completely absurd. India’s record on nuclear non-proliferation is well known to the global community. A country with a history of clandestine nuclear proliferation making such statements is clearly an attempt to divert attention from its own past.”
Recently, India signed a long-term uranium supply agreement worth 2.6 billion dollars with Canada. Under the deal, Cameco Corporation will supply 22 million pounds of uranium to India between 2027 and 2035. The agreement aims to strengthen India’s civilian nuclear energy programme. Pakistan had objected to the deal, claiming it could pose a threat to regional security.
The spokesperson also rejected Pakistan’s allegations that India was responsible for recent military tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said, “Blaming India for its own wrongdoing has become Pakistan’s habit. Due to decades of promoting terrorism, Pakistan has no credibility when it comes to cross-border terrorism. Fabricating such stories will not change the truth, nor will anyone be misled by Pakistan’s attempt to portray itself as a victim.”
