Intelligence warns of possible Lashkar attack, high alert at Red Fort and key religious sites
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Security agencies have issued a serious alert over a possible terrorist threat, warning that cross-border groups may be planning attacks in major cities. Intelligence inputs suggest that the Pakistan-based outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba could be preparing to target prominent religious sites and crowded areas in an attempt to create unrest.
According to reports, historical landmarks and places of worship are considered potential targets. The areas around the Red Fort and temples in the busy Chandni Chowk region are said to be under special watch. Authorities have also strengthened security at major religious centres in Ayodhya, Varanasi and Mathura following the alert.
Sources indicate that the suspected plot may be linked to recent developments in Pakistan, with intelligence agencies suggesting that certain groups could be attempting retaliatory actions.
Following the warning, security arrangements have been tightened across sensitive locations. Delhi Police and central agencies have increased patrols and surveillance, particularly in crowded areas of the capital.
