Major rail accident in Bihar as 8 goods train coaches derail, 2 dozen express and passenger trains affected
Jamui (The Uttam Hindu): A goods train met with an accident near Simultala station on the Howrah-Kiul railway line in Bihar's Jamui district late Saturday night, due to which the movement of other trains was affected. No casualties have been reported in this accident. According to the information, the goods train met with an accident near Simultala station. Due to this, the operation of trains on up and down lines has been affected since last night. The routes of many express trains have been changed. Passengers had to face problems due to the disruption in the operation of about two dozen express and passenger trains passing through at night.
Railway officials arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the incident. It was reported that the freight train, loaded with cement, was traveling on the up line from Jasidih to Jhajha when it suddenly derailed at bridge number 676 near Telwa Bazar Halt. Following the accident, all the wagons remained on the bridge, and the engine stopped about 400 meters further, near Telwa Bazar Halt. The driver and guard immediately informed Simultala station.
According to railway officials, eight wagons of a goods train derailed late Saturday night near kilometer 344/05 between Lahaban-Simultala stations of Asansol Division (Eastern Railway). Due to this, rail operations on both the up and down lines of this section have been disrupted. ARTs from Asansol, Madhupur and Jhajha left for the site as soon as the information was received, and work is underway on a war footing to restore operations. It is believed that traffic on this route will be restored soon. It was told that trains running on this section are being diverted to different routes.
