New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): Delhi government's Environment Department is set to deploy GPS-based hydraulic anti-smog gun vehicles, fitted with water sprinklers, to monitor air pollution in industrial sectors, Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated on Friday. Sirsa added that the project, to be initiated in collaboration with Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), will be conducted by eight CNG-run trucks mounted with state-of-the-art anti-smog guns with the capability to spray mist over a 30-meter horizontal area and 330 degrees rotation.

This will give complete coverage to cut down airborne pollutants in all industrial complexes, he added. Our government is committed to industrial development without harming the environment. We are working in a concrete manner to reduce industrial waste and enhance infrastructure," said Sirsa. He claimed DSIIDC has already implemented successfully water sprinklers and anti-smog guns in the Bawana and Narela Industrial Areas, which have worked effectively to neutralize air pollution.

Sirsa announced that the sprinklers would be put to work in two shifts during the day in early morning shift and a four-hour shift during off-peak afternoon hours. He informed that this project has been initiated on the direction of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The hiring process of GPS-equipped anti-smog gun vehicles has been completed successfully, and the government is now poised to put these vehicles on the roads covering industrial belts to check air pollution effectively.

The new smog guns will be installed in Patparganj, Okhla Phase-III, A Block and S Block Phase-II, Jhilmil, Nangloi, Udyog Vihar, Badli, and Bhorgarh industrial areas from June 2025. Two more vehicles will also be kept for industrial areas controlled by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), he added.

The trucks are also equipped with horizontal sprinklers across their width to spray water at the same time on roads, using at least 1,500 liters of water an hour, he added. The Minister added that the drive is likely to drastically check dust particles and industrial pollution, ensuring cleaner air for Delhiites. The project, which will last 10 months minus the monsoon season, reflects the Delhi Government's resolve to use innovative, green solutions for sustainable urban living.
