New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Major changes are underway in the country's school education system. In this regard, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has begun preparations to implement a new syllabus for grades 9th through 12th. An expert committee of NCERT is preparing new textbooks in accordance with the new syllabus.

Following the implementation of this major change, some students studying under the old syllabus will also be required to take a mandatory bridge course. It should be noted that NCERT has already developed textbooks for classes 1 through 8 in accordance with the new syllabus, which have been implemented in schools.

When will the new syllabus be implemented and when will the books be available?

According to NCERT's plan, the new syllabus for grades 9 through 12 will be implemented from the 2026-27 academic year. In view of this, work on the new books is progressing rapidly.

According to the information, new books for classes 9th and 11th will be available by February next year, while new books for classes 10th and 12th are likely to be available by July.

Why is the syllabus being changed?

NCERT is developing this new syllabus for grades 9 to 12 based on the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). According to the NCF, the new syllabus has reduced content. Instead, a greater emphasis has been placed on teaching students through activities and graphics.

What is a 'bridge course' and who needs to take it?

When the new syllabus is implemented, some students will be required to take a 'bridge course' to bridge the gap between the old and new syllabus. NCERT is also preparing books for this.

According to reports, when the new syllabus is implemented, students entering 11th grade (i.e., those who passed 10th grade using the old syllabus) will be required to take a six-week bridge course. Similarly, students who have passed 9th grade and are moving to 10th grade will also be required to complete this bridge course, as they will be studying under the old syllabus in 9th grade and will be taught under the completely new syllabus in 10th grade.
