New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): PNB scam accused Nirav Modi's brother arrested in US... PNB scam accused Nirav Modi's brother Nihal Modi has been arrested in the US. Nihal Modi has been arrested under the extradition request of the Indian government. Now the process of his extradition to the US has started. India's Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation had appealed for Nihal's extradition.

Nihal's bail hearing will be held on July 17 in the National District of Honolulu (NDOH). Nihal Modi is wanted in the PNB scam, one of India's biggest banking scandals. Investigative agencies allege that he helped his brother Nirav Modi hide crores of rupees of illegal money and divert it through shell companies and foreign transactions.

Nihal is accused of defrauding LLD Diamonds USA, one of the world's largest diamond companies, of more than $2.6 million (about Rs 22 crore). The investigation claims that Nihal Modi fraudulently obtained diamonds from the company on the pretext of finalizing a deal with Costco. But this deal was never completed. After this, Nihal Modi sold those diamonds and mortgaged them for personal gain.
