Nitish Kumar files nomination for Rajya Sabha elections, Home Minister Amit Shah also present

Patna (The Uttam Hindu): Bihar politics is abuzz with activity surrounding the Rajya Sabha elections. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's decision to run for the Rajya Sabha is expected to cause a major political upheaval in the state. Meanwhile, all five NDA candidates, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and BJP National President Nitin Naveen, filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present. All Bihar NDA candidates, Nitish Kumar, Nitin Naveen, Ramnath Thakur, Shivesh Kumar Ram, and Upendra Kushwaha, arrived at the assembly complex and filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha.

Earlier, Nitish Kumar wrote on the social media platform X, “Had a courtesy meeting with Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in Patna.”

Also on Thursday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar posted on the social media platform X, "For more than two decades, you have consistently maintained your trust and support with me, and it is because of that that I have served Bihar and all of you with complete devotion. It is because of your trust and support that Bihar is today presenting a new dimension of development and respect. For this, I have expressed my gratitude to you many times in the past."

He wrote in his post, "Since I began my parliamentary career, I have had a desire to become a member of both houses of the Bihar Legislature and both houses of Parliament. In this regard, I am seeking to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in this election."

On February 18, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for biennial elections to fill 37 vacant seats in 10 states. These seats are falling vacant because the term of the current members is set to expire in April 2026. According to the notified schedule, voting will take place on March 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and counting will take place at 5 p.m. the same day.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived at the Chief Minister's residence in Patna. He met with Nitish Kumar there. Several leaders, including BJP National President Nitin Naveen and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, also attended the meeting. It was reported that the meeting discussed the Rajya Sabha elections, the current political situation in Bihar, and future strategies.
