New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Odisha is a beautiful state in itself, where one can enjoy the blue sea, lush green hills and beaches like Goa, but very few people know that an ancient treasure is hidden there.

We're talking about Chhenga Mountain, which boasts a truly astonishing arch. Millions of tourists visit this natural wonder and take in the lush green scenery every year.

Chhenga Mountain is famous for its naturally occurring arch and rare shape. The rocks here are believed to date back to the time of the dinosaurs, approximately 160 million years ago. Despite the changing course of the Khas River and the long history of the region, the rock has retained its shape. Located in the Kanika Range of the Forest Division, the arch was discovered by the Geological Survey of India and has been granted geo-heritage status.

According to Indian geologists, this oval-shaped arch has a base length of 30 meters and a height of 12 meters. The natural arch's niche has a maximum height of 7 meters and a width of 15 meters, making it distinct and unique from other rocks. Over 160 million years old, the arch is not only famous for its structure, but it also has links to our mythology.

It is believed that an arrow shot by Lord Rama while hunting the golden deer created a hole in the rock, believed to be the arch, and landed on the other side of the hill. Located in Hemgir, Sundargarh district, the arch, on Chhanga Hill, requires trekking through rough terrain and lacks any nearby amenities.

Since this place is located in the mountains, bring all your necessary supplies with you if you wish to visit. Along with trekking, tourists can also enjoy the amazing natural scenery here. However, it is advisable to avoid visiting during the rainy season and avoid going alone.
