New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A historic milestone has been reached in Indian politics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surpassed former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling to become India's longest-serving head of government. Pawan Kumar Chamling served as Chief Minister for 8,930 days, while Prime Minister Modi has completed 8,931 days as Chief Minister of Gujarat and Prime Minister combined. This is a rare and remarkable achievement, reflecting decades of continuous public service and leadership.

It is noteworthy that during his tenure as Chief Minister, PM Modi set the record for being the longest-serving Chief Minister of Gujarat. He is the Prime Minister with the longest tenure as Chief Minister. He is also the first Prime Minister since India's independence to win three consecutive Lok Sabha elections (2014, 2019, and 2024). This achievement underscores his tenacity, experience, and sustained public support.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was born on 17 September 1950 in Vadnagar, Gujarat. He began his political career as a pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He joined the BJP in 1985 and actively participated in party organizational activities. Narendra Modi took office as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the first time on 7 October 2001. He served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat four times, leading the Gujarat government after the 2001, 2002, 2007, and 2012 assembly elections. His tenure as Chief Minister lasted until 22 May 2014, a period of approximately 12 years and 7 months.

Narendra Modi is the 14th and current Prime Minister of India, having held office continuously since 26 May 2014. He was sworn in for a third term in June 2024. He is the first non-Congress Prime Minister to win a third consecutive term, and holds the position of longest-serving Prime Minister, having served over 4,000 days in office.
