Imphal (Uttam Hindu News): Five BJP MLAs, who returned to Imphal on Saturday after meeting central leaders in Delhi, expressed hope for the early formation of a government in Manipur. President's rule has been in force in Manipur for the last eight months. Around 26 BJP MLAs from Manipur had gone to Delhi last week and earlier this week to meet the party's central leaders and urge them to form a popular government in the state as soon as possible. Five of these BJP MLAs returned to Manipur on Saturday, but most of the MLAs are still in Delhi.

The MLAs include former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Manipur Assembly Speaker Satyabrata Singh, former ministers Thongam Biswajit Singh, Sapam Ranjan Singh, Heikham Dingo, Yumkham Khemchand, Konthoujam Govindas and MLA Karam Shyam. The MLAs held a meeting in Delhi with BJP's North-East in-charge and Lok Sabha MP Sambit Patra and party's national general secretary BL Santosh.

MLA Karam Shyam said that Sambit Patra and BL Santosh have assured him of their positive intent to restore the elected government. He said that recent discussions reflect the clear concern and commitment of the party's central leadership.

Karam Shyam said that previously, the restoration of a popular government was rarely mentioned in discussions, but this time Sambit Patra and BL Santosh have shown a clear interest in the matter. We hope that a government will be formed soon.

Former minister Sapam Ranjan Singh said the delegation's main objective was to brief central leaders on the political and security situation in Manipur and to press for the early restoration of an elected government. "We highlighted the importance of forming a popular government to ensure stability and public confidence. The discussions were positive, and we hope for a favorable outcome soon."

BJP MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar had previously stated that the people of Manipur want a popular government. Shyamkumar stated that the situation in the state is now completely normal. If a popular government is formed, it would be better to address the situation and carry out development and welfare work for the overall benefit of the people of the state. As a reminder, before President's rule was imposed in Manipur, the state had a BJP-led coalition government under former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
