New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Election Commission has announced elections for 37 vacant Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states. The Commission stated that the elections will be held on March 16. The Commission stated that elections will be held for the seats in Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Bihar. These seats expire on different dates in April.

It is worth noting that the Rajya Sabha has a six-year term. However, elections are held every two years for one-third of its seats. This is why the Rajya Sabha is called a permanent house. This is because, unlike the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha is never dissolved.
