Dumka (The Uttam Hindu): A sensational incident surfaced on Wednesday morning from the Nagar Police Station area of Dumka, Jharkhand’s sub-capital. Police recovered the bodies of a woman and her six-year-old daughter from the rear verandah of a closed office of the Sadar Inspector, located near Veer Kunwar Singh Chowk. Blood was seen coming out of the nose and mouth of both victims, leading police to suspect murder at first glance. The double death has triggered panic in the locality.

Bodies spotted by morning walkers

The incident came to light when local residents returning from their morning walk noticed the bodies lying in the back verandah of the Sadar Inspector’s office. The deceased woman was around 30 years old, while the child was about six years old. A large crowd gathered at the spot soon after. On receiving information, SDPO Vijay Mahato and Nagar Police Station in-charge Jagannath Dhan, along with police personnel, reached the site and began investigation.

Woman survived by begging, identity still unknown

Local residents informed the police that the woman appeared to be mentally unstable and had been wandering in the area for the past few days. She reportedly survived by begging and always stayed with her daughter. People also mentioned that a disabled man was sometimes seen with her. Despite inquiries, police have so far failed to ascertain the identity and native place of the woman.

Crime suspected in isolated location

Preliminary investigation suggests that the spot where the bodies were found is isolated and not meant for habitation. Police suspect the accused may have brought the woman and child to the deserted area on some pretext and then committed the crime. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined to identify suspects last seen with them. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

SP confirms murder suspicion

Dumka Superintendent of Police Pitambar Singh Kherwar stated that the incident appears to be a case of murder at first glance. He said the exact cause of death and the manner of killing will be clear only after the post-mortem report. Police are investigating the case from all possible angles and have expressed confidence in reaching the culprits soon.
