Speeding truck plopes into river: Driver's narrow escape caught on camera, watch video
Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu): Nature's white fury has begun amidst the severe cold in the high altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Fresh snowfall occurred on Monday in many mountainous areas including Zojila-Dras and Shinkula, where a white sheet of snow of about 1 to 2 inches has been spread. Due to the snowfall, a sharp drop in temperature has been recorded. The Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy skies during the next 24 hours and more snowfall in high altitude areas like Zojila and Shinkula, due to which the severity of the cold is expected to increase further.
Amidst this beauty of snowfall, the slippery roads are proving to be fatal. Due to this slippery condition, a heart-wrenching accident took place near Pandras War Memorial, where a speeding truck went out of control and slid off the road and fell straight into the river. This entire accident was captured in a CCTV camera installed there. Fortunately, the driver survived, but he got injured in the accident. It is being said that the slippery condition on the roads had been there since the snowfall on Sunday, which became the main reason for this accident.
Mukhtar Ahmed, Director of the Srinagar Meteorological Center, has issued a weather forecast for the coming days. According to him, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy throughout the Union Territory from December 16th to 18th, and this will continue on December 19th and 20th. Very light snowfall is possible, especially in the higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir, late at night or early in the morning. Meanwhile, due to the influence of a Western Disturbance, rain or light snowfall is expected at isolated places in Kashmir and the Jammu division until the evening of December 21st, which will increase the chill in the plains as well.
