New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court has approved President Donald Trump's policy regarding third genders in the United States. Now, there will be no third gender option on American passports. Only male and female options will be available on the passport.

The Supreme Court ruled that individuals will now be able to identify themselves as the gender they were assigned at birth by looking at information on their US passports. However, three liberal justices have objected to this Supreme Court ruling.

The Supreme Court has ruled that displaying gender at birth on a passport does not in any way violate the right to equality. It is like displaying the country of birth. It is merely a matter of sharing facts.

In January of this year, at the start of his second term, US President Donald Trump ordered the State Department to change passport rules. The presidential order will recognize only two genders on US birth certificates.

Earlier, the lower court had ordered the removal of this order of the US Justice Department, after which the Trump government had approached the Supreme Court.

Gender designation on US passports began in 1970. In 1990, gender change was permitted based on a medical certificate. In 2021, the former Biden administration made the change, granting the right to choose one's gender without a medical certificate.

Previously, some changes were made regarding third gender recruitment in the US Army. Information regarding this was shared on the US Army's X handle. Under this, third gender individuals will not be able to join the US Army.

The US Army announced on social media platform X that the US Army will no longer allow transgender individuals to join the military and will cease facilitating gender transition procedures for service members. Effective immediately, all new enlistments for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria have been halted.

The post further stated that all unscheduled, scheduled, or planned medical procedures related to confirming or facilitating gender transition for service members have also been paused. Individuals with gender dysphoria have volunteered to serve our country and will be treated with respect and dignity.

Gender dysphoria is a psychological condition in which a person experiences discomfort when their biological sex and gender identity do not match.
