Accra (The Uttam Hindu): Six people were killed and 37 others injured in a stampede ahead of a military recruitment exercise in Ghana's capital Accra on Wednesday. The Ghana Armed Forces said in a statement that the six people were among those who had come to the El-Wak Sports Stadium to participate in the selection process.

"The Ghana Armed Forces deeply regrets to inform the public of a stampede that occurred prior to the commencement of the 2025/2026 recruitment process. Six potential recruits were killed and several others injured in the incident," the statement said. The army blamed the stampede on an unexpected rush of applicants. According to the army, applicants violated security protocols and entered the gates before the scheduled screening. The army said the injured were being treated at the 37 Military Hospital.
