Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu) - The Election Commission on Tuesday released a draft voter list for Uttar Pradesh under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The draft states that the state has more than 125.5 million eligible voters, while approximately 28.9 million names were removed during the current process.

Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, Navdeep Rinwa, told reporters that during the special intensive revision of the electoral roll, 2.17 crore voters were found to be either missing or had shifted from their registered addresses. He said that 25.47 lakh voters were found to be registered at more than one place. Urging voters whose names are not in the draft list to fill Form 6, the CEO said that claims and objections can be filed till February 6. The CEO said that during this process, it was found that 46.23 lakh voters had died. He said that signatures of 18.70 percent voters were not received during the SIR.

Earlier, the Commission had issued revised dates for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Uttar Pradesh, based on the qualifying date of January 1, 2026. The final publication of the voters' list is now scheduled for March 6, 2026. In a statement released on social media, the CEO revised the dates for the draft publication of the electoral list to January 6. He said, "The period for receiving claims and objections has been fixed from January 6 to February 6, 2026." The CEO added, "The notice stage, counting of forms, and disposal of claims and objections will be conducted from January 6 to February 27, 2026. The final publication of the electoral list for Uttar Pradesh will be done on March 6, 2026." On December 12, the ECI appointed SROs (Special Roll Observers) for the intensive electoral list revision in Uttar Pradesh and seven other states. The SROs were appointed to inspect the SIRs of electoral rolls in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
