New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Some people experience symptoms like a stuffy nose, sneezing, and a heavy head upon waking in the morning. Often dismissed as a common cold or a change in the weather, it could be a chronic cold. Chronic colds are a common but troublesome problem, but if the condition worsens, they can lead to sinus problems or nasal congestion.

In Ayurveda, chronic colds are associated with conditions related to the Kapha dosha. When excessive Kapha builds up in the body, they begin to accumulate in the nose and head. This is not felt while sleeping at night, but upon waking in the morning, one experiences nasal congestion and a slight chill. Poor diet and cold foods can also aggravate this condition. Ayurveda offers a solution to chronic colds, which you can treat at home.

First, let's understand the causes of this problem, which include staying up late at night, excessive consumption of cold water or refrigerated items, prolonged exposure to dust and pollution, weakened immunity, and frequent infections. According to Ayurveda, simple remedies like basil, ginger, and warm water can help alleviate these problems. Pranayama and a proper daily routine also play an important role. Small changes can gradually improve this problem.

Start your morning with warm water. This helps dissolve and expel mucus. Steam inhalation twice a week helps reduce breathing obstructions. Additionally, drinking turmeric milk, basil-ginger tea, warm nasal oil, eating light foods at night, and avoiding cold foods will help prevent mucus buildup in the body, reducing morning congestion.
