Munak Canal Tragedy: Chief Minister Mrs Rekha Gupta Meets Bereaved Families
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi Chief Minister Mrs Rekha Gupta today visited Shalimar Bagh’s Haiderpur area to meet the families of two children who lost their lives in the Munak Canal tragedy and conveyed her deepest condolences. The Chief Minister said that the government stands firmly with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
She announced that the Delhi Government would provide an ex-gratia assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased children. She also directed the concerned officials to immediately initiate the process of financial aid so that the compensation could reach the affected families at the earliest.
Chief Minister Mrs Rekha Gupta instructed officials to ensure strict safety measures at canals and other sensitive locations in order to prevent such accidents in the future. She stated that efforts have already begun to secure the area around the Munak Canal to avoid similar incidents. At present, the responsibility for the canal’s maintenance lies with the Haryana Government. We are in discussions with the Haryana Government so that the maintenance responsibility may be transferred to us. Once that happens, railings will be installed on both sides of the Munak Canal to ensure public safety while allowing the canal to flow without obstruction.
