51 drug traffickers arrested in Punjab with 3.9 kg heroin and 500 g opium
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Under the ongoing anti-drug drive “War Against Drugs” in Punjab, more than 100 police teams carried out raids at 268 locations across the state on Thursday. During the operation, 253 suspected individuals were questioned and 51 drug traffickers were arrested.
According to an official spokesperson, with these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended in the last 292 days has risen to 40,623. During the raids, police recovered 3.9 kg of heroin, 500 grams of opium, 165 intoxicating tablets and capsules, and ₹8,190 in drug money from the arrested accused.
It is noteworthy that the Punjab government has also constituted a five-member cabinet sub-committee, headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, to monitor the state’s war against narcotics. As part of the “Drug De-addiction” campaign, police also persuaded 17 individuals on Thursday to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
