AAP leader Lucky Oberoi's killer shot in leg, arrested in encounter
The accused had come to Khasa seeking refuge.
Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): Amritsar Rural Police achieved a major success late last night. The killer of Aam Aadmi Party leader Lucky Oberoi, who was murdered yesterday in Jalandhar, was killed in an encounter near the Attari border. DIG Border Range Sandeep Goyal, SSP Amritsar Rural, SPD, DSP Attari Yadvinder Singh, SHO Amandeep Singh, and SI Rajbir Singh arrived at the scene and identified Lucky Oberoi's killer as Shaminder Singh, a resident of Model Town Mitthapur near Jalandhar. At the time of writing, senior police officers from Mitthapur, Jalandhar, had arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. He was seriously injured in the police encounter and has been taken to a hospital for treatment. Police also recovered a Beretta .30 bore pistol from him.
Intelligence was received that the accused, Shaminder Singh, was hiding in a Khasa area to avoid arrest. SSP Amritsar Rural, Suhail Qasim Mir, stated that during checking, the accused was spotted on a motorcycle. When police signaled him to stop, he tried to flee, causing his motorcycle to skid and he fell. The accused opened fire on the police party. In the retaliatory fire, the accused was shot in the leg. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment. During preliminary interrogation, the accused made important revelations about another person involved in the murder. Based on this information, raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining accused.
