US war costs surge amid Iran conflict; Trump seeks financial support from Arab nations
US war spending in Iran conflict crosses billions as Trump considers seeking financial support from Arab nations amid rising costs.
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): The ongoing war between the United States, Israel, and Iran is no longer limited to military operations, as its massive financial impact is now becoming evident. Billions of dollars are being spent rapidly, and recent signals from the White House suggest that President Donald Trump may not want the US to bear the full financial burden alone.
Will Arab nations share the war cost?
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump is “very interested” in seeking financial contributions from Arab countries to support the ongoing war effort. While she did not provide detailed plans, she indicated that the idea is under serious consideration and could be discussed openly in the near future.
Billions already spent on war
The cost of the conflict has been staggering. Earlier this month, officials from the Pentagon informed the US Congress that more than $11.3 billion had already been spent within just the first six days of military operations against Iran.
Additionally, a media report citing former Pentagon budget official Elaine McCusker estimated that the cost during the first three weeks ranged between $1.4 billion and $2.9 billion. The spending continues to rise, with the White House reportedly requesting at least $200 billion in additional military funding from Congress to sustain operations and replenish depleted weapon stockpiles.
White House on inflation and energy prices
Addressing concerns over rising global energy prices, Leavitt stated that the increase is temporary. She emphasized that weakening Iran would bring long-term benefits to both the US and the global economy.
Referring to past conflicts such as the Gulf War, she noted that earlier US military actions were supported by the United Nations and requested by Arab nations. However, the current situation is different, as the US and Israel are largely operating without similar international or regional backing.
