AAP National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda launches scathing attack on BJP government over Surajkund accident
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party's National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda issued a statement on Sunday describing the accident at the Surajkund International Fair in Faridabad as extremely tragic and shocking. He said that the same event which the Haryana government and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini were touting as "world-class" and patting themselves on the back for, witnessed a security and administrative lapse that claimed the life of a policeman and left several people seriously injured. This accident is not a coincidence, but a result of the government's gross negligence.
Anurag Dhanda said that the most shameful thing is that a minister of the Haryana government is trying to shirk his responsibility by calling this accident "not the government's fault but God's will." The question is, if everything happens according to God's will, then why is the entire system of government, administration, security arrangements, and inspections in place? Such statements are like rubbing salt in the wounds of the victims and making a mockery of the public's suffering.
He said that after the accident, the government immediately started a cover-up. It is now becoming clear that the fitness certificate issued for the ride was fake. When this certificate was issued at the Deputy Commissioner level, why is the FIR only against the vendor? Did the vendor create the certificate himself? This old government habit of protecting senior officers at the root of administrative negligence and making smaller people scapegoats is now clearly visible to the public. He raised another crucial question, asking how a committee headed by an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) could investigate the role of a senior officer like the Deputy Commissioner (DC)? Is this investigation truly aimed at uncovering the truth, or is it merely a formality to ensure the matter is swept under the rug after a few days? The entire system is under scrutiny and raises serious doubts about the government's intentions.
He further stated that it should not be forgotten that the fair was inaugurated by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini himself. When the Chief Minister was making claims of "security" and "order" from the stage, how did this accident happen? Is the Chief Minister only responsible for cutting ribbons and posing for photographs, or does he also have a responsibility to ensure the safety of the public? This incident has clearly shown that the government's claims are hollow and the ground reality is completely different.
Anurag Dhanda added that the Aam Aadmi Party prays for the speedy recovery of all those injured in this accident and expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the martyred police officer. We demand that the government ensure complete and free treatment for all the injured and provide adequate compensation to the affected families. However, merely providing compensation is not enough. Strict action must be taken against every officer and minister responsible for this accident, no matter how high their position.
He said that the Surajkund incident is a reflection of the Haryana government's working style, administrative negligence, and its mentality of evading accountability. If the government does not take strict action now, public trust will be completely shattered. To prevent such a tragedy from happening again in the future, concrete and honest action is needed, not just empty rhetoric.
