Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed concern over the rising cases of religious conversions in Punjab and appealed to both the state government and the public to take steps to curb the trend. Speaking at a memorial programme held in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, to mark the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, he said that conversions carried out under the influence of greed are an insult to the sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus. He urged the government and people of all communities to work together to stop such practices.

Paying tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur, Shah highlighted the Guru’s sacrifice for the protection of religious freedom. He said the ninth Sikh Guru laid down his life to defend the faith of others and stood courageously against powerful forces despite facing severe hardships. He added that Guru Tegh Bahadur’s sacrifice played a crucial role in preserving religious traditions and continues to inspire people even today.

During his address, Shah also referred to the period of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb and spoke about the hardships faced by Kashmiri Pandits at that time. He said Guru Tegh Bahadur stood in their support and challenged attempts at forced conversion. Shah noted that the Guru’s courage strengthened the resolve of people to protect their faith and that his legacy remains a source of inspiration for followers of Sanatan Dharma around the world.
