Barinder Goyal: Shahpur Kandi Dam completion a historic achievement of Mann Government

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Goyal today said that the completion of Shahpur Kandi Dam is a historic milestone achieved under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership, fulfilling a key promise made by the AAP government in 2022.

Goyal said, “This project was launched in 2012 but in ten years, only 50% of work was completed under previous regimes. In contrast, in just three years, the Mann government finished the project and CM Mann recently inaugurated it. This is a government that delivers on its guarantees.”

He added that before the AAP government, only 24% of Punjab’s fields received canal water, but today, 64% of agricultural land is being irrigated through canal systems, a massive leap forward in saving Punjab’s groundwater and farming community. “In many areas, farmers are receiving canal water after 40 years. People are overjoyed. This is what visionary governance looks like, thinking for the next generation and acting to protect Punjab’s future,” said Goyal.

He further stated that while earlier governments ignored Punjab’s worsening dark zones, the Mann government has shown the political will to revive traditional water sources and promote sustainable agriculture. “The AAP government works not for headlines but for results,” he concluded.
