Bomb threats in Jalandhar and Chandigarh schools trigger evacuations, while Ferozepur court is cleared; police and cyber teams launch investigations.
Jalandhar/Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Panic spread across parts of Punjab on Monday after several schools in Jalandhar and Chandigarh received bomb threats via email, prompting immediate evacuations and large-scale security operations.
In Jalandhar, threats were sent to Delhi Public School (DPS), Mayor World School, and another DPS branch. The emails reportedly used abusive language and warned authorities to “save the children,” causing alarm among school authorities and parents.
As soon as the threats were received, school management informed the police. Security teams, including bomb disposal squads and dog squads, reached the locations and began thorough searches of the school premises.
Police officials stated that the cyber cell has been engaged to trace the origin of the emails. Repeated threats of this nature have created an atmosphere of fear among parents and local residents.
The threatening emails also mentioned possible explosions at schools and the mayor’s office in Jalandhar. The sender claimed links to an organization, which is currently under investigation.
Meanwhile, similar threat emails were received by schools in multiple sectors of Chandigarh, including Sectors 41, 32, 47, and 45. Authorities immediately evacuated the schools, and security agencies were placed on high alert.
Search operations are ongoing in the schools and surrounding areas, with officials carefully examining any suspicious objects to prevent potential harm. Authorities have urged the public not to believe or spread rumors and to cooperate with the administration.
In a related development, the court complex in Ferozepur also received a bomb threat. Court proceedings were suspended until 2 PM, and the premises were evacuated as police launched a detailed investigation.
