Big relief for women in Punjab: ₹1,000 per month scheme likely soon, says CM Mann
Khemkaran (The Uttam Hindu): Bhagwant Mann announced that women in Punjab will soon receive ₹1,000 per month under a new government scheme. He said the provision for this financial assistance will be included in the upcoming state budget to help women achieve financial independence and meet their daily needs without depending on the head of the household. The Chief Minister made the announcement while laying the foundation stone of a ₹137-crore rural link road project in Khemkaran.
During the event, Mann said the state government is working to address major issues such as drug addiction, unemployment, poverty and inflation while strengthening infrastructure in border areas. He stated that the government has launched several initiatives to boost development, including a new industrial policy that offers additional incentives to industries setting up units in border districts. He also highlighted that the government has provided more than 63,000 government jobs to youth and is making efforts to create further employment opportunities to prevent young people from falling into social evils.
The Chief Minister also outlined progress in irrigation, education and healthcare sectors. He said canal irrigation has increased significantly after reviving thousands of kilometres of canals and waterways. Mann added that large investments are being made to improve rural roads, while Schools of Eminence are being established to enhance education quality. He further said the state has launched a health scheme offering cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh for families and that hundreds of Aam Aadmi Clinics are providing free healthcare services across Punjab.
