Zero tolerance on corruption: Punjab Vigilance Bureau nabs drug inspector accepting ₹1 lakh bribe
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): In its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has nabbed Drug Inspector Ramandeep Gupta, posted at the FDA Drug Wing, Sri Muktsar Sahib, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1,00,000.
An official spokesperson for the State Vigilance Bureau stated that the accused was arrested based on a complaint filed by a Bathinda resident. He stated that the complainant is the director of Radinex Life Sciences Private Limited, Bathinda, and his company has been manufacturing allopathic medicines since 2020. The accused drug inspector had sealed his company after a raid. The complainant alleged that the accused drug inspector was demanding a bribe of ₹200,000 per month in exchange for lifting the seal.
Since there was no intention to pay any bribe, the complainant contacted the Vigilance Bureau Range, Bathinda. Following a preliminary investigation into the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap, during which the accused drug inspector was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 100,000 from the complainant as the first installment, in the presence of two government witnesses.
In this regard, a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Bathinda and further investigation in the matter is underway.
