New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu) : Ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, the Congress party has prepared a detailed blueprint for victory. This time, the party is set to move away from traditional methods of candidate selection and adopt a “scientific survey model.” Under this approach, all assembly seats across the state will be divided into three categories A, B, and C and candidates will be shortlisted accordingly.

According to sources, the Congress high command has made it clear that ticket distribution will not be based solely on winnability, but will also give equal importance to local dynamics, public opinion, and young leadership. As part of this strategy, a comprehensive survey is being conducted at two levels.

Strategy Through Double Survey

In the first phase, the party’s in-charge and state president will conduct a ground survey of each assembly constituency through a private agency. Simultaneously, election strategist Sunil Kanugolu’s team will prepare independent reports for every seat and submit them directly to the high command. This “double survey system” is expected to give the party an accurate picture of the ground reality.

Category A: ‘Sure-Shot Victory’ Seats

Around 50 to 60 seats will be placed in Category A, where Congress considers itself to be in a strong position. Candidate selection in these constituencies is expected to be relatively smooth, although survey findings and inputs from district presidents will still be taken into account before finalizing names.

Category B: ‘Close but Losing’ Seats

Category B will include seats where Congress has performed well in previous elections but failed to secure victory. This time, the survey will specifically seek answers to the question: “Why is the party unable to win these seats?” A shift in strategy and fresh thinking in candidate selection is likely for these constituencies.

Category C: ‘New Bet in Weak Strongholds’

The most interesting strategy is reserved for Category C, which includes seats where Congress has consistently performed poorly. The party is planning major changes in these areas and is likely to field young, energetic, and fresh faces.

Big Bet on Youth

Congress is also signaling a generational shift in Punjab politics. The party has decided that nearly 50% of tickets will be given to leaders below the age of 50. This move is expected to infuse new energy into the organization and help attract young voters.

Clear Message: Elections Backed by Data and Youth

This strategy clearly indicates that Congress is preparing to fight the Punjab elections not just on political calculations, but on the basis of data, surveys, and grassroots feedback. The party appears determined to leave no stone unturned in its bid to return to power in the state.
