CHANDIGARH (The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab General Secretary and Media In-charge Baltej Pannu strongly rebutted the statement of Punjab BJP leader Ashwani Sharma, who claimed that only the BJP can eradicate drugs and restore law and order in Punjab. He emphasised that such statements insult the intelligence and memory of the people of Punjab.

In a video message, AAP Punjab State Media Incharge Baltej Pannu reminded the BJP leader that from 1997 to 2002, the BJP was in alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and again from 2007 to 2017, the state was governed by the SAD-BJP combine. “It was during this period that drugs spread rapidly across Punjab and ‘chitta’ destroyed an entire generation. The responsibility does not lie with the Badals alone; the BJP shares equal accountability,” he asserted.

He questioned whether BJP believes that Punjabis have forgotten the decade when drug abuse and gangsterism flourished under their watch. “Before making tall claims, BJP leaders must answer for their own record,” he added.

The AAP Punjab Media In-charge asserted, “Today, if any government is sincerely and comprehensively acting against drugs and gangster networks, it is the government led by CM Bhagwant Mann. His government is cleaning up the mess and removing the thorns sown by previous regimes. Concrete steps are being taken to dismantle drug supply chains and restore peace and law and order in Punjab.
