Gurdaspur SSP Aditya Awarded DG’s Commendation Disc for Defusing AK-47 Standoff With Exceptional Courage

Gurdaspur (The Uttam Hindu): In a display of extraordinary courage, tactical clarity and exceptional leadership, SSP Gurdaspur, Aditya (IPS), has been awarded the Director General’s Commendation Disc for safely neutralising a highly dangerous situation that could have resulted in far greater tragedy.

The incident unfolded when an armed attacker, who had moments earlier shot dead his wife and mother-in-law, remained at the spot with an AK-47 rifle, posing a grave threat to everyone nearby. As panic spread, SSP Aditya assumed direct command and led from the front.

Maintaining a safe distance and assessing the threat with remarkable composure, he engaged the attacker through calm and measured dialogue. His ability to negotiate without provocation, combined with his psychological steadiness, helped de-escalate the situation and prevent further violence.

Crucially, SSP Aditya ensured the safety of all civilians and police personnel present. His swift and decisive intervention brought the crisis under control without any collateral damage—an outcome that required rare presence of mind and professional judgement.
