Abhishek Sharma was fined after the match, leading to a deduction from his ipl earnings despite victory.
Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): After remaining silent in the T20 World Cup 2026 and the opening match of IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad's star opener Abhishek Sharma has finally returned to his ferocious avatar. On Thursday, he played an explosive innings against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens and gave his team a great start and laid a strong foundation for victory. Obscene language recorded in stump mic, board teaches a lesson
In fact, Abhishek Sharma's aggressive batting on the Eden Gardens field was as aggressive as his demeanor, and this anger proved to be his undoing. At one point during the match, Abhishek uttered abusive language, which was clearly recorded by the stump mic on the field. Whether it's international cricket or the world's biggest league, the IPL, such behavior is not tolerated. The BCCI immediately took a firm stance, finding Abhishek guilty of violating Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and fined him a hefty 25 percent of his match fee.
Lakhs of rupees deducted in one stroke, know how much will come in the account now?
Following this strict action by the BCCI, fans are wondering how much financial loss Abhishek Sharma has suffered. According to IPL rules, each player in the playing eleven receives a fee of ₹7.5 lakh per match, which is completely separate from the amount received at the auction. Abhishek was supposed to receive ₹7.5 lakh for this match against KKR, but due to the 25 percent penalty, ₹187,500 was directly deducted from his match fee. Now, only ₹562,500 will be credited to his bank account. In addition to the monetary loss, this Level 1 offense has also added one demerit point to his record. According to the rules, if these points reach four, the player is banned for at least one match.
The umpire's decision angered him leading to a controversial end to the innings.
Speaking of Abhishek Sharma's performance in the match, he played a blistering innings of 48 runs, facing just 21 balls. During this innings, he smashed four towering sixes and four magnificent fours. However, the end of his fiery innings was quite controversial. Varun Chakravarthy took a brilliant catch, but replays showed the ball had already touched the ground. Despite this, the third umpire deemed it a clean catch and declared him out. Abhishek Sharma himself was visibly upset and displeased with the umpire's controversial decision as he returned to the pavilion.
