Amritsar(The Uttam Hindu): A tragic incident occurred during the sacred pilgrimage to Sri Hemkund Sahib, where an 18-year-old youth, Gurpreet Singh, from Amritsar, lost his life after falling into a 300-foot-deep gorge.

According to eyewitness accounts, Gurpreet was traveling with a group of nearly 90 pilgrims on the yatra. While trekking, he mistakenly took an old, abandoned route that was unfamiliar and extremely dangerous. As he walked a short distance along the risky path, his foot slipped, causing him to tumble into the deep ravine.

Soon after the mishap, rescue teams were alerted. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arrived at the site and launched a challenging operation to retrieve the body. After several hours, Gurpreet’s remains were recovered from the steep gorge and brought back to the main route.

The shocking news has left his family and entire locality in deep mourning. His sudden death during what was supposed to be a spiritual journey has devastated his parents, who are inconsolable. Neighbors and relatives have gathered at the family home to offer support, but the atmosphere remains heavy with grief.

Local authorities have once again urged pilgrims to strictly follow designated paths and avoid taking shortcuts or lesser-known routes, as such trails often lead to life-threatening situations in the mountainous terrain.
