He was welcomed by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar. Phoolka's experience and clean image are expected to benefit the party
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Senior Supreme Court lawyer and former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stalwart HS Phoolka has taken a major step in his political journey by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He officially joined the party during a ceremony held in the national capital, Delhi. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri gave him a warm welcome by presenting him with the BJP's turban. Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar was also present on this important strategic occasion. Phoolka's move is being considered very important from the perspective of Punjab and national politics.
Fought a long legal battle against the 1984 Sikh massacre
On this occasion, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri lavished praise on HS Phoolka, saying the party was delighted with his joining the BJP. Puri stated that Phoolka's name is respected not only in India but throughout the world. Referring to the tragic events of 1984, the Union Minister clarified that it was no ordinary riot, but rather a brutal massacre of innocent Sikhs. Phoolka has fought a legal and social battle against those atrocities from the very beginning, which made it possible to bring a key perpetrator of the massacre to justice in 2023.
He has a long association with the BJP and has served as an advisor to Madan Lal Khurana
Hardeep Puri surprised everyone by sharing an interesting anecdote regarding Phoolka's joining the BJP. He explained that HS Phoolka's relationship with the Bharatiya Janata Party is not new, but rather a long-standing one. When the BJP formed its government in Delhi in 1992, Phoolka served as an advisor to then-Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana. Now, with his rejoining the BJP, the party is expected to benefit greatly from his vast experience and his strong and clean image among the Sikh community.
