Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): There was chaos and panic at Jalandhar City Railway Station on Saturday night when some youths dressed in Nihang attire not only scuffled with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, but also attacked and vandalised the RPF post. Seeing the youths brandishing swords and other weapons in their hands, there was a stampede among the passengers. This entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the station.

According to the information, the incident happened after Jammutavi Express (19225) reached the station. RPF in-charge Inspector Rajesh Kumar Rohila was patrolling the platform with his team. During this time, he saw that a young man in Nihang attire was repeatedly boarding and alighting from the AC coach of the train. Finding it suspicious, Inspector Rohila questioned the young man and asked him to show the ticket.

It is alleged that the youth got agitated when asked for a ticket and started abusing and arguing with the jawans. Soon the matter escalated and the youth started fighting. Other RPF jawans present on the spot intervened and controlled the two youths and brought them to the RPF post.

A few minutes later, 8 to 10 turbaned youths ran towards the RPF post with swords and other weapons in their hands. They attacked the gate of the post with swords and broke the glass there. Seeing armed youths creating such a ruckus at the station, passengers got scared and started running here and there to save their lives. After creating a ruckus for about 10 minutes, all the accused fled from the spot.

The incident was immediately reported to Ferozepur Railway Division and GRP. RPF and GRP have jointly started investigating the case. On the basis of CCTV footage installed at the station, efforts have been intensified to identify the accused and arrest them. Describing the incident as serious, the officials said that creating a ruckus with weapons at a sensitive place like a railway station is a major lapse in security and strict action will be taken against the culprits.
