No Resolution in Sight: Haryana to Approach Supreme Court over SYL Dispute
New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News) – An important meeting was held on Tuesday to resolve the more than four decade old water dispute between Punjab and Haryana, but the details of the meeting have not been made public. However, after the meeting on the SYL issue, CM Mann shared information and said that this issue has been going on for a long time. The matter is also in the Supreme Court.
Today's discussion took place in a good atmosphere. The Supreme Court had said that if the issue can be resolved through talks, then meetings should be held. Some positive steps are being taken. There is no quarrel between the people of Punjab and Haryana, but it has been politicized. Both the Chief Ministers and the Jal Shakti Minister have met and positive decisions have been taken. A way forward can be found, for which a meeting will be held before the 13th. I was successful in presenting Punjab's perspective and I hope the central government will consider it. After the meeting, the Chief Minister of Punjab said that if Punjab gets water from other rivers, then he can consider providing more water.
In the meeting, Bhagwant Mann again put forward his point regarding the water of the Ravi river, but the Center expressed its disagreement. After July 9, the talks between Punjab and Haryana regarding the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal in Delhi today again failed. Haryana CM Naib Saini said that on the 13th we will go to the court with a positive attitude. A meeting was also held between the two states on July 9 last month under the leadership of Union Water Power Minister CR Patil, in which it was decided to hold another meeting on August 5. In the meeting held last month, the Chief Ministers of both the states had agreed to resolve this dispute soon and in the same sequence, a meeting has been held again today.
