Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Indian security forces have completely foiled another nefarious plot by Pakistan to push a consignment of drugs into Punjab. On Saturday, a joint team of Punjab Police's counterintelligence and the Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a major operation near the Fazilka border and recovered 6.5 kilograms of heroin. This consignment is estimated to be worth crores of rupees in the international market. The vigilance of the security forces has completely thwarted the plans of smugglers sitting across the border.

Taking advantage of the darkness, Pakistani smugglers reached the barbed wire

According to reports, Counter Intelligence had received reliable intelligence about drug smuggling from across the border. Initial investigations revealed the shocking discovery that smugglers based in Pakistan had taken advantage of the darkness of the night to cross the "zero line" and reach the barbed wire fence on the Indian border. Meanwhile, alert BSF personnel fired several rounds at them to prevent infiltration and smuggling. Hearing the gunfire, the Pakistani smugglers panicked and fled for their lives. Following this, both forces conducted a joint search operation near Mahatam Nagar village in Sadar Fazilka, resulting in the recovery of this huge quantity of heroin.

DGP's strong message, special appeal to the general public

Following this major success, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared details of the entire operation on the social media platform "X." He clarified that the Punjab Police is pursuing a "zero tolerance" policy against cross-border drug trafficking and related crimes, and that no laxity will be tolerated. The DGP stated that this action is an important step towards further strengthening border security and surveillance. He also appealed to citizens to immediately inform the local police station or the Border Security Force (BSF) if they notice any suspicious activity or person in their area.

Pakistani operatives and a cache of weapons were also caught in Amritsar

Prior to Fazilka, on March 15th, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police also busted a dangerous Pakistani smuggling network. Cracking a major module, the police arrested six suspects, from whose possession six sophisticated pistols, 60 live cartridges, and 3.513 kilograms of heroin were recovered. Investigations revealed that these suspects were in direct contact with a Pakistani broker across the border and were a key part of the arms and drug supply chain in India. These continued major seizures clearly demonstrate that the police and BSF are working to dismantle this large, organized network of smugglers.
