Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Finance Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, on Monday, vehemently condemned Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring for his remarks targeting the legacy of former Union Minister and prominent Dalit leader, late Sardar Buta Singh.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema described Warring's statement as "outrageous and reflective of the deep-seated anti-Dalit mindset prevalent in the Congress high command." He immediately called upon Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to take swift and decisive action by removing such prejudiced individuals from the party.

In a strongly worded statement issued here, Advocate Cheema said that Raja Warring's comments regarding a towering figure like the late Sardar Buta Singh, who dedicated his life to public service and the upliftment of the Dalit community, are utterly despicable. "These are not merely political remarks; they are a direct and shameful assault on the dignity of the Dalit community", he added.

The Finance Minister said that it is evident that the Congress party, despite its lip service to social justice, continues to harbor leaders who hold deeply derogatory views about the scheduled castes. He said that Warring’s words expose the hypocrisy of the Congress leadership in Punjab.

Addressing Rahul Gandhi directly, Finance Minister Cheema said, "I challenge Rahul Gandhi, who claims to champion the cause of the poor and marginalized, to prove his sincerity. If he truly respects the Dalit community and the Constitution, he must immediately throw Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and other such anti-Dalit elements out of the Congress party. Anything less will confirm that this prejudice is sanctioned from the very top."

The Finance Minister further added that the AAP remains committed to protecting the honor and rights of every community, in stark contrast to the Congress party, which he accused of consistently sidelining and disrespecting Dalit leaders throughout its history.
