Sutlej River in Punjab: 50 People Saved from Being Carried to Pakistan Amid Heavy Rain Alert
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu)- There was chaos near village Ghazni Wala in Mamdot, a border town of Ferozepur, when about 50 people who had gone to farm across the Sutlej river got stuck in the strong current of water. Seeing the situation getting serious, some youth of the village reached in another boat and brought everyone to the shore safely.
Actually, these people were going to farm across the Sutlej river. Many of them were women as well. During this time, their boat started swaying due to the strong current of water. Their boat started drifting towards Pakistan and was about to capsize. Seeing the situation getting serious, some youth from the village reached in another boat and brought everyone to the shore safely.
Heavy rain alert in Punjab
Due to continuous rain in the hilly areas, the water level of Sutlej has increased. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of change in weather and heavy rainfall in different parts of the state from 13 to 15 August. The water level in the major dams built on Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers has reached more than 75 percent of its total capacity.
