BCCI announces big honours after T20 world cup win, Shubman Gill to be ‘Cricketer of the year’ and Rahul Dravid to receive top award
After India’s T20 World Cup 2026 win, BCCI will honour the team at the Naman Awards in New Delhi. Shubman Gill will receive the Cricketer of the Year award
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After India’s historic victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup, the champion Indian cricket team led by Suryakumar Yadav is set to be honoured in a grand ceremony soon. Although Team India, which won the T20 title for a record third time, did not get the chance to take part in a victory parade like previous celebrations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning a special tribute instead.
The BCCI will host its annual “Naman Awards” ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday, March 15, where members of the World Cup-winning team along with other standout performers in Indian cricket will be honoured for their achievements.
Shubman Gill to be named ‘Cricketer of the year’
The biggest highlight of this year’s Naman Awards will be young Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill. According to a report by The Indian Express, Gill will be honoured with the prestigious “Cricketer of the Year” award for his remarkable performances in 2025.
After becoming captain, Gill created history during the England tour by scoring 754 runs in his first series, including four centuries. His century in the Champions Trophy final also played a key role in India’s title victory.
Although his T20 performances last year were not very remarkable, Gill scored a total of 1,764 runs in 42 innings across all formats at an impressive average of 49, establishing himself as the deserving winner of the award.
Rahul Dravid to receive lifetime achievement honour
Along with the players, former Indian captain and head coach Rahul Dravid will also be honoured for his immense contribution to Indian cricket. He will receive the prestigious “CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.”
Dravid, popularly known as “The Wall,” is the second-highest run-scorer for India in Test cricket. The award recognises his outstanding achievements both as a player and as a coach. Under his coaching, India ended an 11-year ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, and the Under-19 team also won the World Cup in 2018.
Domestic cricket stars will also be recognised
Apart from senior stars, young players who performed exceptionally well in domestic cricket will also be honoured at the ceremony. Ayush Mhatre, captain of India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning team, will also receive a special award for his outstanding performance as the best domestic all-rounder during the previous season.
